Follow Up

The reporter didn’t respond to my email, they must not be interested in writing on the topic. Wrong!

Have you every forgotten to respond to an email? Perhaps opened an email, got distracted and made a mental note to respond at a later date? Been on deadline for another project, closed out your email to focus and never revisited what you missed? I know I can answer yes to all and would be willing to bet that it has happened to others as well.

It’s ok to follow up, within reason. As a rule of thumb, I typically follow up 3-5 business days after my first email with a very simple one-liner with my original email below the follow up for easy reference. It should not take more than one minute to send – do not write a paragraph, do not send it read receipt, just a friendly follow-up note. Don’t complicate it, keep it simple.
